Embrace the Power of Pausing: Healing for Strength and Resilience

Published: April 12, 2023

Too often we lose sight of our goals, even with the best of intentions. As a former colleague used to say, "we forget to pay attention to our intentions".

Many of the concerns my clients come to me with are the goals they want to achieve, but don't know how to get there or where to start. While each individual journey is unique, I have found that breaking it down into four steps can help start moving in the right direction.

Here are the 4 steps that I consider most important to reach your goals.

1. Take time to figure out what’s important

With competing priorities it can be difficult to keep on top of it all. Reevaluate what’s happening in your life and create a priority list, remembering to be honest with yourself.

What NEEDS to be done now? What responsibilities can you not put off (i.e: paying bills, doctors appointments, supporting your family). What can you eliminate from your list, without compromising your big vision? Who can you delegate a task to?

What do you WANT to achieve? On a scale of 1-10, how important is it to you that you achieve those goals?

2. Make a plan

Start with what you have to do. How long will these tasks take? Can you come up with a consistent and manageable schedule to complete these tasks each week?

How can you achieve your other goals? Break down your goals using the SMART goals tool. How Specific is your goal? How will you Measure it? How Achievable is your goal? How Relevant is your goal to your life, your big vision and your values? What’s a realistic Time frame for you to complete your goal?

Asking yourself these powerful questions, reflecting and taking it deeper can really change your perspective. Self coaching is a tool that I often teach my clients, and is one that is utilized throughout my training programs. We can’t always call up our coach or support system to help us work through something. Often times, it’s easier for us to write down our thoughts and feelings before saying it out loud.

3. Get support

Think of who can support you to achieve your goals. Who may be able to help you overcome obstacles standing in your way? What may be holding you back from reaching out to somebody for help?

A one-on-one coach is a great support system. Not only do they hold your feet to the fire and keep you on track, but they will also guide you through conversation to uncover the reasons why you might be resisting change, or feeling that you “can’t” achieve your goals.

If you’re still uncovering and want to make BIG change quickly, PGC Inc.’s The Coach Approach System™ is a great way for you to sift through your goals, align them with your big vision and values and receive coaching across three days. You will work through the three days the same way you would work through a coaching conversation, finishing with an action plan to help you get closer to your vision! Click here to learn more

4. Commit to your plan

It’s time to stop talking and start taking action!

If committing to a coach isn’t for you, try committing to an accountability partner. Think of someone in your life who will help you stay on track, call you out when you’re not showing up for yourself and your goals and help remind you of why you set out to reach your goals in the first place. I often recommend my clients to meet with their accountability partner once per week either over the phone, a coffee or a nice glass of wine. It’s a great way for the two of you to stay on track.

We all know the saying, “out of sight, out of mind”. When we get busy with our day-to-day and forget about what we REALLY want to achieve, we lose sight of our goals, our commitments and our path to success.

Keeping your vision front-and-centre is another great way for you to ensure you are prioritizing your dreams along with the hundreds of other things going on in your life. This is also something we work on in our coaching skills academy The Coach Approach System™. By the end of the three-day program, you will walk away with a vision board that outlines your goals and path to success.

We all have goals we want to achieve and we all have the same number of hours in a day. What’s standing in your way?
