I want to share this idea of Do What You Say You Will Do (DWYSYWD), as it often shows up with the clients I support.
How often do you find yourself setting goals and intentions for the year or quarter, only to turn around and notice that half a year has gone by, and you’re asking yourself, what were those plans again?
I'm smiling because this is so normal. You may have every intention of bringing those plans and visions to fruition, but you're human.
We get busy, fall off course and lose track of what we are truly here for.
What happens as a result is your purpose, mission, and vision fall by the wayside.
It makes me sad, actually, because you're here to do great work that has meaning and impact.
We can invest a lot of time, energy, and resources in setting our intentions and making plans for ourselves, our team, and the organization, only to fall short of what we intended.
Obviously, there are times when things need to shift, and we need to be nimble when unexpected situations arise.
I'm not speaking about that.
I am speaking about the very vision that you have for you, your organization, and your leadership team.
The accountability (Do What You Say You Will Do) often falls short when you don't have the structures, systems, and foundation in place to anchor back to your plan.
That is integrating and implementing systems that support you and your team's success.
(Read more about them in my book Leadership Unleashed ~ Awaken Your Extraordinary Leadership)
What's underneath accountability is self-responsibility. (and it's even deeper than this)
Is this infused into the DNA of your leadership? Or is it something you need to look at?
Do your goals have meaning and purpose?
Are my leaders self-responsible, or are they busy moving on to the next thing that we as a leadership team are currently talking about/shifting to?
Accountability is a common opportunity I hear from many executives and leadership teams.
What is underneath your ability to do something beyond what you’ve ever done isn’t about your ability. You are fully capable of doing extraordinary things. It is about your beliefs.
If it were easy to let them go, everybody would do it. Yet it is the fastest way to address the core issue and overcome the challenges facing most leaders today.
So I want to leave you with this.
What plans are you really lit up about?
What's important about fulfilling them?
If you’ve mapped out your plan, wonderful. What progress have you made?
If you haven't mapped out your plan yet, consider what will support your success, connect you back to your heart and purpose, and Do What You Say You Will Do.
If you are ready to rise up to your next level of leadership, I will love to support you.
